Reconciliation Week

What is Reconciliation and what does it mean to reconcile? Reconciliation means to remember what happened and to make amends it also means to rebuild relationships. It also means to kind of make a truce with the other group of people or other person.  What happened in residential schools I hope will never happen again. Indigenous children were taken away from their families and put in these boarding schools which were actually like prison schools. They were stripped of their language and culture . They were beaten and abused and were horribly treated . The goal of these schools was to “ take the Indian out of them” because the church and government agreed that they were different in a bad way and they thought it was for their own good. I have learned lots of things this week about the indigenous children who got put in residential schools like how If your mother or father or even your grandmother or grandfather had trauma from these schools it might have passed down to you so you would also have trauma. It’s horrible what happened to these children and we need to teach people about what happened and to educate especially youth.

This is a story of a survivor .
